Language note
False friend: in a restaurant, the menu is die Karte (or die Speisekarte). Das Menü is a set meal with several courses. Note also 19 Uhr for 7 pm: for bookings, appointments and timetables, Germans use the 24-hour clock in speech, too. Among friends, um sieben (at seven) is just as common.
Culture note
It helps to get a booking confirmation by email or text message. If something goes wrong, staying calm speeds things up – and Ist es möglich …? is a magic phrase.
