Language note
das Handy is the everyday German word for a mobile phone; it looks English but is not used that way in English. kündigen is used for ending any contract, and also for handing in your notice at work. zum nächstmöglichen Termin means "at the earliest possible date"; here Termin is a date, not an appointment.
Culture note
In Germany, mobile phone contracts renew automatically after the minimum term. Since 1 December 2021, a contract that has been extended in this way can be cancelled at any time with one month's notice. Two golden rules: make the date clear (zum nächstmöglichen Termin) and ask for written confirmation (schriftliche Bestätigung) – without it, what was agreed on the phone is hard to prove.
